Mogadishu, Somalia – Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and Mama Zahra Foundation (MZF) visited the Somali Police Orphans Boarding School on November 15, 2023. The visit was aimed at supporting the school and its students, who are children of police officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty.

The TAPS and MZF delegation were led by Ms. Bonnie Carroll, President and founder of TAPS, and Mrs. Fatma, TAPS representative in Europe based in Italy. They were accompanied by Mr. Augustine, Director of Sub-Saharan Africa and South America, and MZF management team, including the Program Manager, General Secretary, Finance Manager, and Protocol. Mr. Nash, who helped TAPS complete the project, was also part of the visit.

During the visit, the delegation met with the school’s management team and teachers, who briefed them on the school’s activities and the challenges they face. The delegation also visited the dormitories, where they saw the living conditions of the children and the 30 beds for young girls’ project, which was donated by TAPS through MZF.

The visit was an opportunity for TAPS and MZF to understand the needs of the school and its students, and to explore ways to provide support and assistance. The organizations are committed to supporting vulnerable populations in Somalia, and they believe that education is a key factor in helping individuals rebuild their lives and communities.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to visit the Somali Police Orphans Boarding School and see the important work that they are doing,” said Ms. Bonnie Carroll, President and founder of TAPS. “We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that help make this a reality.”
